Ten years or so ago, Lamai Beach was by far the coolest place
on the island and had much better bars and restaurants than Chaweng.
Nowadays Lamai is comparatively quiet. A laid back kind of place,
eclipsed by busier Chaweng. That said, with new places like Sub
Club and its sister bar Fusion, Lamai is once again dragging its
way back into fashion.
Located on a cozy corner in the south of the island, Samui's
second major beach is still small enough to comfortably walk around
the town in an evening and find a variety of eateries and entertainment
venues with weekly events like female mud wrestling and all girl
Thai boxing supplementing the usual attractions.

The long perfect white sand and crystal clear water of the beach
itself remains magnificent and is considered by many to be the
finest on the island. It is also lined by a wide range of accommodation
options. The best places, such as Long
Island Resort, the world famous Spa Resorts Samui, and the
brand new Buriraya, are found out of town.
Also nearby are the phallic rocks Hin Tin and Hin Yai and Wat
Khunaram, which houses mummified monk Loung Pordaeng. Both are
very popular visitor attractions.
