Full Moon is Anantara Bophut Resort’s flagship restaurant. Located at the western end of Bophut’s Fisherman’s Village, this opulent five-star resort is accessible both from Samui Ring Road and from the beach. Set in the central area of the resort on an al fresco deck overlooking the swimming pool and Bophut Beach, this classy, contemporary styled restaurant is the perfect place for a romantic dinner in Koh Samui.
Full Moon Restaurant’s speciality is char grill fusion cuisine, but its à la carte international menu harbours a great choice of local flavours, including delectable seafood dishes. Blending European, Thai and Japanese influences in a delightful stylish atmosphere, Full Moon is indeed an original top-notch venue to lunch or dine in Bophut.
Full Moon Restaurant is set in the centre of the nicely landscaped luxuriant tropical garden of the resort in a two-storey long and narrow rectangular building alongside the infinity-edged swimming pool. The ground floor of the edifice hosts the kitchen and the pool bar while the second floor is an open-sided terrace that can comfortably accommodate up to 30 guests.
At lunch time, Full Moon is a tropical restaurant dream comes true: the view to the pool and through a few coconut trees to Bophut Bay and Koh Phangan in the background is stunning. The ambience is relaxed yet remains elegant. After sunset, Full Moon takes in all its greatness: cleverly disposed lighting gives the restaurant an intimate feel and the only sounds that could be heard are those of the small insects and frogs which live in the park and only reveal their presence at night, giving to the venue an irresistible exotic romantic touch. The service is in line with the high standards of Anantara – it is impeccable.
Regarding food, Full Moon Restaurant is like an orchestra directed by two conductors: the first one is Executive Chef Bernhard Koll who has a long culinary experience in five-star resorts (at Mandarin Hotel in Bangkok for instance), and is particularly famous for his contribution in the preparation of the meal for The King of Thailand’s 60th anniversary celebration; the second one is Santi Thongrit, the sommelier at Full Moon, he also is a man of experience who has an impressive knowledge in Old and New World wine labels, and which ones would complement the best the unique dishes prepared by his colleague.
The restaurant’s highlights are seared Ahi tuna loin with crushed black pepper, sundried tomatoes and wild rocket leaves (430 baht); pan-fried barramundi steak on butter sautéed baby leek, fine spring onion and sugar peas (690 baht); and Tajima Wagyu tenderloin char-grilled with sautéed vegetables and tender greens (1950 baht); yet the menu presents a mind-puzzling choice of delectable delicacies that would be able to please the most demanding gourmets.
