Happy Days Samui is a remarkably faithful recreation of a ‘50s-era milk and burger bar just past the entrance to Fisherman’s Village in Bophut. Something of a saw thumb in a road mostly lined with Thai restaurants and rustic-looking international dining options, the bright, open-sided establishment with classic rock ‘n’ roll tunes playing from within serves fantastic gourmet burgers and milkshakes, among other items.
Taking the place of what was once Cheeseburger Cheeseburger, the style and cuisine has remained much the same since it took on the theme of the popular US TV show. The change to Happy Days Samui resulted in the walls being coated in pictures and memorabilia from the 1950s. The signature burgers (which make up the bulk of the choices available) are all named after iconic figures from that time, including the Elvis Presley (420 baht), the Marilyn Monroe (390 baht) and the Woody Allen (a vegetarian option – 390 baht).
We tried the Chuck Berry (430 baht), which included a hefty beef burger, Swiss cheese, cooked ham, a fried egg, sauerkraut, sausage, fried onions and Dijon mustard in a soft burger bun. Served with fries and coleslaw, it is extremely hearty and tasty. We also tried the retro-style chocolate milkshake (150 baht). Then we went back for a second.
If you have a healthy appetite and want something deliciously unhealthy to satisfy it, you will certainly like Happy Days Samui. If you also happen to be a fan of all things retro – particularly from the rockin’ ‘50s – then you will absolutely love it! It’s open Sunday, Monday (happy days!), Tuesday, Wednesday (happy days!), Thursday, Friday (happy days!) and Saturday (what a day!).
