Green Bird is an unpretentious Thai restaurant serving up mostly Thai seafood. It’s very popular with visitors as it keeps its prices down (they’re still higher than non-tourist spots, though). Green throughout and open since 2007, one wall of this small (30sqm) restaurant is entirely covered with rave comments from satisfied customers.
Meticulously clean, Green Bird keeps things simple and mercifully only has one 42” flat-screen TV.
With a photo menu, Green Bird is hardly five-star material and conversation grinds to a halt every few minutes as incoming planes screech overhead on the flight path to Samui Airport.
Dishes here include the ubiquitous fried rice, phad thai, a large selection of seafood and salads. The restaurant is fan cooled and open-sided to allow good people watching of the streams of tourists passing by on this soi off Chaweng main street.
Green Bird likes to keep things simple and this is perhaps the secret to its success and popularity.
With a friendly owner and attentive staff who make the difference between just an average diner and a place you feel like going to, the restaurant has absolutely no claims to pretentiousness and delivers down-to-earth Thai food in less than fussy surroundings. Sounds like your kind of place? Then keep an eye out for the Green Bird signage leading off central Chaweng's main high street.
