Koh Samui Restaurants

  • The Jungle Club in Koh Samui

    Chaweng Noi Restaurant & Attraction

The drive up to this hillside resort restaurant may be hair-raising (especially the last few metres) but it’s worth it for some of the best views on the island. Jungle Club has 17 bungalows, ranging from basic to four-star standard and its restaurant, built out of completely natural products, has bamboo sofas with colourful cushions and several different types of chair and table arrangements.

You could say that it’s so unusual that it’s a little strange but it all seems to work somehow and to mesh in style. The multilevel restaurant has several dining spaces, and you can choose from a wooden deck with Thai cushions to individual thatch-and-bamboo ‘salas’ (pavilions) to the actual restaurant area itself with its jazzy and spacey music and smiling staff.

  • Another quirk in this unusual place is its DVD/library space. After trying several times to find the door to it, I realised that there is no other way to access the space than to climb in over a rock! Food-wise, Jungle Club isn’t going to win Michelin stars but its menu is made up of basic stuff that sticks to the straight and narrow, albeit in a Frenchified way. Baguettes, salads, steak and chips and a selection of wines form the backbone of the menu and if you fancy going Thai then there is a selection of curries and other dishes to choose from.

To sum up, access to Jungle Club is best by the resort’s 4X4 or on a dirt bike but it’s not recommended in a saloon car and certainly not when it’s raining. Energetic people have been known to have walked up, though. The northerly views from Jungle Club are of Lamai, Chaweng, Bang Rak and the airport and, at midday on a sunny day, are quite simply unbeatable.

The Jungle Club is a set of 2-star bungalows, with fantastic views, friendly staff and brilliant food. The Jungle Club is found on Sumai Island, along the Chaweng Noi beach, under the shade of the coconut trees on a plantation. The resort offers land and sea tours of the Koh Tan, Koh Tao, Koh Nang Yuan, and Koh Phangan islands. The hotel is not within reach of most of the islands features, but the lack of contact with the bustling shops or nightlife is made up for by the stunning views and absolute peace at night. The Samui Centre Point is 4.2km away, and the airport is 6kms away, but it takes a 4x4 ride to get to the bungalows which are situated above sea level.
