Soi McDonalds is the common nickname for a short and fairly wide side-street off the main road running through the middle of Lamai (Haad Lamai Road). Unsurprisingly, it takes its name from the McDonald’s burger restaurant on the corner, but the 60m soi is mostly known for its modest collection of beer bars, making it one of the go-to streets for those seeking a lively night in Lamai.
Down this small street, you will find a handful of beer bars. These establishments follow the same general pattern as the bars in Lamai Central Plaza – a roughly round, roofed structure with neon lights, loud music, a couple of chrome poles and cheap drinks served by a small staff mostly comprised of young Thai ladies. Bar names include Winner Serene Bar, Naree Bar and the Mermaid Bar. The other side of the road is home to a spa and a couple of small restaurants.

Soi McDonalds is actually part of a larger loop of road sometimes labelled as Lamai Beach Road. True to its name, it provides access to Swing Bar, Chill In and other beachfront restaurants, bars and hotels. However, it is only the beer bar section which really comes to life after dark. The smaller selection of bars (and the fact that the service staff are on the older side) makes this one of the more relaxed Lamai nightlife locations.
