Hacienda Beach Restaurant

Named after the resort to which it belongs, Hacienda Beach Restaurant is a lovely exotic venue set on the white powdered sand of Maenam Beach, in the north of Samui Island. Featuring an open-sided contemporary-style dining room and a beachfront deck, it is definitely a cool place to sip a fresh drink and enjoy a hearty meal. John's Garden Restaurant & Bar is a stylish restaurant set in the superbly landscaped garden of a traditional Thai house located off Samui Ring Road in the Wat Napralarn Soi leading to Lompraya Pier. John’s Garden offers a choice between al fresco dining under the stars or under a wooden sala, all the elements of décor are genuinely Thai, and the garden hosts tropical plants and flowers, as well as fountains that gives the venue a very pleasant relaxing and romantic atmosphere in the evening.

Concerning the cuisine, John’s Garden has all the Thai food favourites available with some specialities such as masaman chicken and spicy glass noodles salad with seafood; if western food is your thing, the restaurant also has a great choice of international dishes including steaks and pasta. Prices are reasonable and John is a great host who will do his best to offer you a memorable dinner in his garden.

Kobori Japanese Restaurant

Kobori Japanese Restaurant is considered by many the best Japanese restaurant in Koh Samui. Kobori is named after its Chef Koji O Kobori, and set in a two-storey modern building located along Maenam Walking Street (halfway between Samui Ring Road and the sea). Featuring a sober Japanese contemporary style décor, the restaurant serves an excellent choice of delicious sushi (California roll six pieces at 180 baht), sashimi (salmon sashimi six pieces at 280 baht), teppanyaki (Japanese Mackerel "SABA" Teriyaki steak at 240 baht), and more. Kobori Japanese Restaurant is also famous for the excellent choice of Sake it has.

Pancake Man

Pancake Man is almost a legendary venue in Koh Samui. Khun Lek ‘Pancake Man’ has been established for years in Maenam (since 1999) along Samui Ring Road and became famous for the quality of its pancakes. Banana, chocolate, caramel, Nutella, and other flavours are available to give Mr Lek’s pancakes an incomparable flavour; after experiencing salted pancakes with stuffed meat, Pancake Man got back to make only sweet pancakes which are more popular. His ‘pancake bar’ is permanently installed and features a few plastic tables and chairs for guests to enjoy their snack.

Roma Italian Restaurant

Bringing a touch of the Riviera to Samui, Roma at Paradise Beach Resort makes the most of its tranquil beachside setting. The modern leaning menu includes treats such as Crema di Zucca ai Pistacchi e Aceto ai Lamponi (Pumpkin cream soup with pistachios and perfumed with raspberry vinegar), Filetto di Branzino ai Funghi Porcini (Grilled fillet of sea bass topped with boletus mushrooms, white wine sauce and a selection of Italian herbs) and Involtini alla Romana con Polenta al Profumo di Tartufo (Veal Roulade with Parma ham and basil served with truffle perfumed polenta and vegetables) as well as more classic fare.  A fine Italian wine list provides a perfect match for the food.

Sala Thai

Located at Santiburi Dusit Resort, Sala Thai is set in a lush tropical garden.  The restaurant serves the finest Royal Thai cuisine, which authentically tones down the heat and incorporates delicate European flavours. Dishes such as Fuk thong geng kati (Pumpkin with coconut curry) and Geang som malakor kab pla insee (rich orange curry of green papaya and king fish) are difficult to find elsewhere and are well worth sampling here. Immaculate service and presentation, low-key lighting and Thai music all add to the experience.

Seaview Restaurant

This restaurant gets busy before tour boats leave for neighbouring islands and occasionally in the evenings. Not exactly the ritziest place on the island, it does, however, live up to its name and you can almost reach out and touch Koh Phangan from the breezy terrace. The Boudoir

Swirling silks, scintillating satins, reams of textiles and the sort of place a Pasha would feel right at home in sprawled among the cushions, The Boudoir is dining opulence. Run by Isa and Stephane from Montpellier, the restaurant manages to balance a French café style with Middle Eastern exoticism. Essentially French cooking, there's a good selection of cheeses, meats, foie gras and even escargots – and a good and cheap house wine.

The Lazy Coconut

Run by a troika of friends, The Lazy Coconut is pretty much the only happening pub in Maenam. It's a fairly large place with outside and inside seating, a pool table, darts board and sports on TV. Featuring all-day breakfasts, an unpretentious menu and lots of beer, nothing is over complicated at the Lazy Coconut – perhaps that's how it got its name.  With the occasional live band, DJ's and regular barbecues there'll likely be something happening the night you visit.

Zenzibar Beach Bar is a cool beachfront restaurant located 600m East of Maenam Walking Street featuring a small open-sided indoor dining area and an outdoor terrace allowing dining with the toes in the sand. Zenzibar Beach Bar décor and furnishing is similar to the trillion beach-eats found all around Thailand coasts and offer a laid-back atmosphere as well as an excellent sundowner spot. Regarding food, Zenzibar serves Thai and international delicacies at affordable prices.
