Tasteful, well designed, and intimate, award-winning Barracuda in Mae Nam is aimed at people who appreciate fine dining at reasonable cost. The German-born chef here is affable and an extremely good host and steers his culinary output towards a marriage of European and Asian dishes.
The menu is changed every three months to ensure renewed interest and fresh ideas and the diminutive (20 covers) restaurant has a fisherman’s theme running through it with an actual fishing boat on one wall.
Specials are chalked up on the blackboard and you’re sure to find a dish or three to your liking here at this charming place.
Try a salmon tartar with Asian spices or a pumpkin soup with Thai spinach and rock lobster. Alternatively, calamari with roasted water melon and a butter-lemon sauce is out of this world. Minted cantaloupe melon with feta cheese and fennel salad shows why the inventiveness of this restaurant makes it stand out. The house wine is fabulous.
