Maenam Restaurants and Dining
Where and What to Eat in Maenam Beach
It's easy to think of Maenam as a simply place to drive through on the way to Chaweng or perhaps Nathon, but there are a few class restaurants in and around the resorts that line the beach as well as in the village by the pier.
Maenam also has a good bakery, a decent chippie (fish & chip shop) and several bar/restaurants catering to the needs of local expats and visitors to the island.
Angela's Bakery
The Doyenne of Maenam's patisserie scene, Angela has been churning out healthy and delicious pies, breads and meals for a good few years now. Nowadays Angela's Bakery is more like a full-blown restaurant with a sideline in breakfasts and patisseries. With spanking fresh made-on-the-spot juices, free-range eggs and wholemeal breads this is a refreshing change from the Burger King and McDonald's diet.

Fish & Chips
Even with a huge selection of pies, pasties, rolls, sandwiches, stews, desserts and good old fish and chips, this shop by Maenam's pier has not lost its personal touch. Reputedly the best chippie in Samui, the portions here are generous and everything – except the fish of course – is homemade. You can 'build' your own breakfast according to your taste here and even have a glass of wine over your meal. Home deliveries made within 30 minutes of ordering.

Seaview Restaurant
This restaurant gets busy before tour boats leave for neighbouring islands and occasionally in the evenings. Not exactly the ritziest place on the island, it does, however, live up to its name and you can almost reach out and touch Koh Phangan from the breezy terrace. Fresh seafood is the order of the day, every day here.

Caffé e Cucina da Angelo
A terraced restaurant, there's a good selection of the usual Italian fare available here and the whole effect is unpretentious and the sort of place to relax and have a family meal in. Fan-cooled interior, internet, good, tasteful background music, you really should try the 'checco' pizza.

Open: 12:00 – 24:00
The Boudoir
Swirling silks, scintillating satins, reams of textiles and the sort of place a Pasha would feel right at home in sprawled among the cushions, The Boudoir is dining opulence. Run by Isa and Stephane from Montpellier, the restaurant manages to balance a French café style with Middle Eastern exoticism. Essentially French cooking, there's a good selection of cheeses, meats, foie gras and even escargots – and a good and cheap house wine.
Location: Ring Road near Maenam Post Office
Style: French
Cost: Affordable
Tel: 085 783 1031
Open: 18:00 – late. Closed Monday
The Lazy Coconut
Run by a troika of friends, The Lazy Coconut is pretty much the only happening pub in Maenam. It's a fairly large place with outside and inside seating, a pool table, darts board and sports on TV. Featuring all-day breakfasts, an unpretentious menu and lots of beer, nothing is over complicated at the Lazy Coconut – perhaps that's how it got its name. With the occasional live band, DJ's and regular barbecues there'll likely be something happening the night you visit.

Lai Thai Restaurant
The Lai Thai Restaurant serves Thai and international cuisine in a relaxing environment with high ceilings and stone-tiled flooring. The restaurant boasts large windows from floor to ceilings to allow 180 degree views across the resort and the ocean beyond.
The split-level seating provides yet more choice for where to eat and what to view.

Roma
Bringing a touch of the Riviera to Samui, Roma at Paradise Beach Resort makes the most of its tranquil beachside setting. The modern leaning menu includes treats such as Crema di Zucca ai Pistacchi e Aceto ai Lamponi (Pumpkin cream soup with pistachios and perfumed with raspberry vinegar), Filetto di Branzino ai Funghi Porcini (Grilled fillet of sea bass topped with boletus mushrooms, white wine sauce and a selection of Italian herbs) and Involtini alla Romana con Polenta al Profumo di Tartufo (Veal Roulade with Parma ham and basil served with truffle perfumed polenta and vegetables) as well as more classic fare. A fine Italian wine list provides a perfect match for the food.

Sala Thai
Located at Santiburi Dusit Resort, Sala Thai is set in a lush tropical garden. The restaurant serves the finest Royal Thai cuisine, which authentically tones down the heat and incorporates delicate European flavours. Dishes such as Fuk thong geng kati (Pumpkin with coconut curry) and Geang som malakor kab pla insee (rich orange curry of green papaya and king fish) are difficult to find elsewhere and are well worth sampling here. Immaculate service and presentation, low-key lighting and Thai music all add to the experience.
