Maenam Dining and Restaurants

Maenam beach is one of Samui's prettiest and quietest beaches. There are plenty of restaurants to suit every budget, from 5 star dining to more casual local venues. While the scene is on a small scale there is still a good choice of food from around the world. Of course alongside the international cuisine there are all types of Thai food on offer, from noodle soup stalls to Royal Thai dishes. Whether its a posh evening out with or simply grabbing a quick bite to eat, Maenam has it all.

Angela's Bakery

Angela's bakery has been open for nearly 10 years and is a real Samui institution. Renown for her delicious bakery products, from handmade Belgian chocolates to wedding cakes, the café attached to the bakery is pretty fabulous too. The menu consists of European favourites and Angela's own innovative creations. The breakfasts here come highly recommended and are just the thing if you need a pick-me-up the after a hard night on the town! Alternatively try one of the excellent deli sandwiches or salads. The bakery also does takeaways and Angela offers a catering service.

Eddy's Modern Food & Drinks

For simple and yummy comfort food, head to Eddy's in Maenam. Eddy's has been recommended by the Rough Guide to Thailand due to its great value for money and friendly staff. Although definitely not a 5 star dining experience, the menu is full of well loved dishes. The breakfasts here are delicious and served in generous portions. Eddy's is a great place to go for a casual meal in comfortable surroundings. Telephone: 077245127. 3/3 Moo 1, Route 4169, Maenam

Food Stop

Food Stop, owned by Lek Boonyawut, serves up a range of Thai, international and deliciously authentic Italian cuisine. The Italian is given its edge by virtue of the fact that Lek spent 20 years in Turin running her own restaurant, before feeling the lure of home and returning to her native Thailand. The fresh pasta dishes are all highly recommended and are perhaps best enjoyed in the very pleasant garden out back on a warm evening (which, luckily enough, they always are) with a glass of beer or two. Route 4169, near 711, Maenam.

La Tratoria

On the main ring road in Maenam is La Tratoria restaurant. The menu has a selection of delicious Italian dishes all at reasonable prices. The restaurant itself is classic and simple in style with a very relaxing atmosphere. La Tratoria also has a large wine list which complements the menu perfectly. Helping you enjoy your meal are the attentive and extremely polite staff. The lasagne at La Tratoria is a delicious example of traditional Italian cooking, although a bit of a belt buster! Open 12 till 10pm, Route 4169, Maenam

Napasai

Napasai resort's signature restaurant offers a choice between French or Royal Thai cuisine. The main restaurant is perched on a hill and its huge windows give panoramic views of the stunning coastline. For customers requiring more privacy there are four outdoor wooden salas providing a secluded, romantic experience. The French side of the menu is under the expert care of master chef Michel Claustre. Recommended dishes with a French flair include the Smoked Duck Breast Carpaccio with Mango Salsa and the Rack of Lamb with herb crust. Khun Suvit is responsible for the excellent Royal Thai dishes on offer. His Gaeng Khiew Warn Goong Sod (Famous green curry with fresh prawns and eggplant in coconut milk) is a great example of Thai cuisine at its best. The kitchen is open from 12-2.30pm for lunch and from 6-10pm for dinner.

Roma

Bringing a touch of the Riviera to Samui, Roma at Paradise Beach Resort makes the most of its tranquil beachside setting. The modern leaning menu includes treats such as Crema di Zucca ai Pistacchi e Aceto ai Lamponi (Pumpkin cream soup with pistachios and perfumed with raspberry vinegar), Filetto di Branzino ai Funghi Porcini (Grilled fillet of sea bass topped with boletus mushrooms, white wine sauce and a selection of Italian herbs) and Involtini alla Romana con Polenta al Profumo di Tartufo (Veal Roulade with Parma ham and basil served with truffle perfumed polenta and vegetables) as well as more classic fare.  A fine Italian wine list provides a perfect match for the food.
Paradise Beach Resort, Maenam.

Sala Thai

Located at Santiburi Dusit Resort, Sala Thai is set in a lush tropical garden.  The restaurant serves the finest Royal Thai cuisine, which authentically tones down the heat and incorporates delicate European flavours. Dishes such as Fuk thong geng kati (Pumpkin with coconut curry) and Geang som malakor kab pla insee (rich orange curry of green papaya and king fish) are difficult to find elsewhere and are well worth sampling here. Immaculate service and presentation, low-key lighting and Thai music all add to the experience. Maenam, Tel. 077 425 031. Open 6pm - 11pm.
