Purchasing items in Maenam is not a concentrated, shop-to-shop affair as in Lamai or Chaweng, but rather a spread-out process. As is often the case in Thailand, product-specific shops stick fairly close together and for some reason Maenam and the road leading to Chaweng is the domain of furniture shops.
Don't be surprised at the idea of buying furniture while on holiday halfway across the world; these shops export and deliver and even after this seemingly expensive process you'll still come out on top, price-wise.
