Koh Phangan Restaurants and Dining
Where and What to Eat in Koh Phangan
lthough justly famous for its Full Moon Parties and all night dancing, Koh Phangan also has some cool spots to eat, drink, dance or simly chill out. From techno to funky sounds. From local Thai food to Indian. HarmonyDon't forget your glo-sticks - Harmony is the place to be to catch up with the newest progressive trance releases. The atmosphere around town is not quite what it was since the Thai government's social order crackdown began, but Harmony neatly sidesteps the issue by starting the party early - so expect to see lots of shirtless, dreadlocked, tranceheads getting into some serious dancing at 9.00pm. Outback BarOffering a more subdued alternative to the banging beachside bars, The Outback is a very popular Aussie themed pub that sprawls comfortably over two levels. The pub grub menu features an impressive selection of authentic pies, burgers and sandwiches. Drop Inn & CactusAlthough they're located at opposite ends of Had Rin East, Drop Inn and Cactus are listed together because they stand out from the pack - i.e. they don't exclusively play pounding techno and trance like most other beach bars. Instead expect a bit of reggae, rock, and radio friendly Euro-house thrown in as well. Niras BakeryA Koh Phangan institution renowned for its long opening hours and location at Had Rin's busiest intersection, Nira's is great for people watching - get there for breakfast and try to work out who's just starting the day and who's finishing the night. The menu is typical Thai bakery fare and includes all manner of pies, pastries, sandwiches and cakes. Om GaneshThe decor isn't going to win any awards in this simply appointed roadside restaurant, but fans of north Indian cuisine won't be disappointed by the menu. A full range of curries, dhals and tandoori dishes are offered at incredibly cheap prices. The large Thali set meals are particularly good value. ShellLocated by the side of Had Rin 'lake' (or swamp as a local government sign rather more accurately describes it) Shell serves what's considered by many locals to be the finest Italian cuisine on the island. The comprehensive menu includes a wide range of pizza and pasta favourites, as well as home made desserts and damn fine coffee. More Dining in Asia:
