Top 10 Night Spots in Bophut

Best Places to Go at Night in Bophut

Bophut’s nightlife scene hosts a good choice of cool bars and restaurants at which punters can spend a cool evening chatting and drinking the night away in a pretty laid-back atmosphere. Far from the hustle & bustle of Chaweng and Lamai (the most frequented resort towns in Koh Samui), Bophut has no discotheques, no girlie bars, and offers a very decent and tranquil alternative, perfect for spending an evening with friends and family.

Our Top 10 Night Spots in Bophut’s list features favourite watering holes available in this charming destination. Most of them are located in the famous Fisherman’s Village, an area that, despite the changes the island went through since the end of the ‘80s, retains a traditional and local touch.

Coco Tams

Coco Tams is a fun and extremely popular beach bar located just outside of The Wharf Samui. With beanbags on the beach, swing seats at the bar, cabanas, shisha and even a large projector screen, it is the ideal tropical relaxation spot and one of the top nightlife attractions in Fisherman’s Village. The venue is very much an open-air arrangement, with only a couple of palm-thatch buildings to find once you enter the well-maintained area, with a neat little garden separating it from Bophut Beach Road. The look and feel is that of an easy-going rustic beach bar, with palms and people nodding to chillout tunes. Read More...

Son F Beach Bar
Son F Beach Bar

Son F Beach is a popular hipster-style bar and is probably the favourite night spot in Bophut. The special party nights (and most Fridays) often see the rustic-style building packed and the young and fun crowd spilling out onto the street in front. A good selection of signature cocktails priced between 150 to 250 baht (with buy-one-get-one-free available during the 18:00 – 22:00 happy hour) is joined by a choice of homemade cakes (starting from 89 baht) and organic ice cream (from 60 baht).

Billabong Surf Club is a cheerful, friendly bar in downtown Bophut. Opened in 2002 and located just above the beach along Bophut’s shopping street, Billabong has outstanding views out over to Koh Phangan and sea breezes that pretty much render useless the bar’s wall fans.

Billabong also has daily faxed-in Australian newspapers, lots of (local) beers on tap and a very reasonably priced South African house wine. This is a good place to meet local expats and enjoy live sports broadcasted on large TV screens. Also, check out the nights when Billabong has live music - it's a great show with a singer so good you'll want him to go on all night long. Read More...

Karma Sutra

Karma Sutra in Bophut is unreservedly all-out retro hippy chic. Flanking both sides of the entrance to Fisherman’s Village by the pier; Karma Sutra has chunky Indonesian wooden furniture, cool sounds, and muted lights. Here, you’ll meet quirky characters galore and it’s pretty obvious by the design and décor that a fair amount of thought (and investment) has gone into it.

The two branches are slightly different with one side markedly busier than the other. As well as having a full menu (charmingly presented as a newspaper) and drinks list, French-owned Karma Sutra is also a great people-watching spot with good views of the sea and pier. Read More...

The Emerald Irish Pub offers draft Guinness and Kilkenny as well as local beers. Fan cooled, the pub has live sports on three screens. Décor wise, The Emerald has genuine Irish pub fittings and on the walls hang historic photos of old Dublin Guinness barges and whiskey ads while some of the bricks are stripped, lending the place a suitable rough-and-ready feel.

The pub's terrace views, like at many Bophut bars and restaurants, take in Koh Phangan and the fishing fleets that gently pass by in the early evening. The Emerald has live music on occasion and if you're anywhere near this pub on St. Patrick's Day (March 17) be sure to make a beeline to join in the celebrations. Warm, friendly and very Irish, The Emerald is a good, clean, and recommendable location in which to spend an evening. Read More...

The Frog & Gecko Pub is a rather rustic venue located along the main street of Bophut’s Fisherman’s Village. Open since 2000 and owned and managed by long-term expats Graeme and Raphaella, who work hard to ensure everyone enjoys themselves, the Frog and Gecko is busy most nights, but packed on Wednesdays for their pub quiz.

With lots of wooden chairs and tables and with views out to Koh Phangan the resulting atmosphere is a mixture of tropical and laid-back. Regarding food, expect good, hearty fare befitting a pub and its welcome lack of pretention means an amusing and friendly clientele. The Frog and Gecko has sports TV (Premier League on Saturdays and Sundays) and a pool table as well as lots of quality 70s tunes, Brit Pop, rock and punk played through its sound system. The Pub
The Pub English Bar

The Pub is a busy and cheerful venue located along Bophut’s Fisherman’s Village’s main street. Its simple set up – one long bar, a few tables and a couple of TV's – attracts a lot of regular punters. The British pub grub is high quality and their Sunday roasts are particularly popular.

As the other pubs/bars/restaurants located along the same street (at least those installed on the right side of the road), The Pub features an al fresco terrace offering splendid views over Bophut Bay and Koh Phangan (the island lying 12km north of Samui, renowned for its Full Moon Parties). At The Pub, music is never too loud and the conversation amusing.

Gecko Bar
Gecko Village

Gecko Bar is one of Samui's most musically astute bars set in a very pleasant Bali-style beachside setting. The owner and resident DJ Gary G plays a range of house and ambient tunes throughout the week and hosts the Gecko's weekly Sunday Session party, which kicks off at 14:00 and regularly features big name guest DJ's and live percussionists.

There's also a Full Moon Warm Up Party and the resort has its own speedboat to get revellers over to Koh Phangan afterwards. The bar is part of Gecko Hotel.

Sirocco Bar
Sirocco Bar

Sirocco Bar is set in an old teak converted Chinese shop-house located close to the pier in Bophut’s Fisherman’s Village. This bar takes one back to the 60's era with Beatles or jazz background music played at just the right level so as not to disturb any conversation, helping you relax with a cocktail in hand or even while you dine on good snack food.

With rattan and bamboo furnishing, colourful cushions and the warm feeling induced by its wooden construction, Sirocco Bar is a very cosy place where punters can spend an agreeable evening sharing their travel experiences. The staff members here are friendly and the atmosphere perfect for a little time after a day on the beach, watching people passing by and life going by.
