Rated as one of the best restaurants in Bophut, Chez François is a non-descript building which looks like nothing more than an ordinary house. The front is a solid wooden door, which alludes to the exclusivity within. Being such a small but popular establishment, booking ahead is absolutely essential and walk-in custom won’t be able to find a table. The only choice on the menu is a specially prepared four-course meal by Chef François Porté-Garcia, featuring a starter, a seafood second course, a meat or poultry main course and a special dessert. Exactly what each course is changes from one day to the next but can incorporate your own special preferences. Mostly consisting of first-class French cuisine, this fantastic feast of fine dining costs less than 2,000 baht.

H Bistro is a classy, trendy, and much sought after restaurant in Bophut. Situated facing the seafront, H Bistro is the flagship restaurant of Hansar Samui Resort; diners can enjoy views of Koh Phangan from the wooden decked terrace and it is an idyllic place for sundowners and cocktails - and indeed people watching.
French-Mediterranean themed food is the main thrust here but vegetarians are also well catered for and the chef is happy to create ‘original’ dishes for diners who have special needs. Thai cuisine is also well represented – you must try the tom yam goong – but the staple of the menu is Mediterranean flavours and textures and the wine list fully reflects this choice of direction. Signature restaurant of Zazen Boutique Resort and Spa, Zazen is an award-winning venue that serves traditional Thai regional dishes with fine-dining touches, sprinkled throughout with culinary flair and brio. The extent of the care put into each dish is reflected in the high cost of dining here and subsequently the French chef spares no effort in his quest for perfection, even growing his own herbs.
Many of the best Samui hotels recommend this award-winning restaurant to their guests and several international publications have mentioned it in their dining sections. Over dinner try the Canadian lobster with saffron fettuccine and bisque sauce or at lunchtime sample the light menu of salads or a club sandwich. Total private dining is possible here by booking ahead. Enjoy an evening in a private sala with the chef personally rustling up some gastronomic delights. Read More...

Full Moon is Anantara Bophut Resort’s signature restaurant. Set in the central area of the resort on an al fresco deck overlooking the swimming pool and Bophut Beach, this classy, contemporary styled restaurant is the perfect place for a romantic dinner in Koh Samui. Full Moon’s speciality is char grill fusion cuisine, but its à la carte international menu harbours a great choice of local flavours, including delectable seafood dishes.
The restaurant’s highlights are seared Ahi tuna loin with crushed black pepper, sundried tomatoes and wild rocket leaves; pan-fried barramundi steak on butter sautéed baby leek, fine spring onion and sugar peas; and Tajima Wagyu tenderloin char-grilled with sautéed vegetables and tender greens. Café 69 is a trendy venue located diagonally opposite Samui Go-Kart on Samui Ring Road. The colourful and modern décor is emphasised by clever lighting effects to create a welcoming vibe. Café 69 is a cosy venue run by an extremely pleasant host (and talented Chef!) – Vivien Bella – who despite the constant hustle & bustle in his establishment always find some time to have a word with his guests.
The food served at Café 69 is “a new twist of Southern Thai Indigenous Cuisine” as they call it themselves. In here you can sample standard Thai and Asian dishes – duck dumpling, deep-fried betel leaves with prawn, or white snapper with mango – enhanced by Vivien’s special touch. Try out the smoked duck curry with lychee and grape, it is simply outstanding. With reasonable prices, Zen atmosphere, comfortable seating and excellent food, Café 69 is definitely worthy of its ever-growing success.

The French owner of Red Moon Restaurant is understandably confident in the quality of his cuisine, particularly given his extensive background in fine dining kitchens. The restaurant itself mirrors the fusion between European and Thai which the menu boasts, with a look which combines rustic with classy. The popular choices of food include beef fillets with mashed potato and truffle oil, red tuna tartar and fried ice cream. Prices are reasonable, with simple Thai dishes starting at 180 baht each, and the cocktails are excellent.

Gourmand Samui is a French restaurant and wine bar opened in 2013 located some 300m after Samui Go-Kart on the right-hand side of Samui Ring Road when heading towards Maenam. Gourmand has all the assets of a Parisian bistro: unpretentious warm coloured décor (with a certain Asian touch in its rattan and wicker furnishing), relaxed and friendly atmosphere, and top-notch French homemade cuisine.
Run by a young French couple, the restaurant serves a good choice of French specialities using imported and local ingredients: the homemade foie gras prepared with Koh Samui local rum and vanilla from Madagascar is a perfect and delectable example of what you could sample here. The menu is pretty short but contains enough succulent delicacies for those looking for a French-treat in Koh Samui. Prices are fair (count 500/700 baht per person) according to the originality and quality of the food.
- Opening Hours: from 11:00 – 14:00 and from 16:00 – 22:00. Closed on Sundays
- Location: 300m on the right after Samui Go-Kart on Samui Ring Road

Starfish & Coffee is one of longest-established restaurants in Fisherman's Village. Named after a Prince song (in case you were wondering) it is also one of its most atmospheric. Starfish and Coffee has distinct dining and bar areas and you'll also find pool tables here. Atmosphere-wise, it's a good place to relax and enjoy the evening at a slower pace rather than a 'dine and hurry out' location as the al fresco part has views out over nearby party island Koh Phangan and local fishing boats heading out for the night.
The menu at Starfish & Coffee features Thai and international favourites with an obvious focus on fresh seafood – try the crab curry and shrimp with garlic and pepper. Drinks and food are reasonably priced compared with Bophut’s average restaurant rates. There's also a boutique attached to the restaurant, which sells an impressive range of silk-covered ladies shoes, amongst other things. Read More...
