Located in Anantara Lawana in north Chaweng, Tree Tops is one of Samui’s most accomplished restaurants and is definitely the place to head to if you are a fine-dining buff. With only eight tables in the restaurant and each table an individual ‘tree house’ the experience here is unique.
It is worth mentioning that you won’t stand much of a chance to dine here without a reservation because of its popularity and the smallness of the establishment and the earlier you reserve, the wider the choice of tables. Tree Tops’ menu is well adequate and offers choices of red meats (with a clever choice of steak knives), seafood and Thai cuisine – all up to top standards. Diners can also try the set menus which also come with wine pairings. Expect to pay top dollar at Tree Tops. Read More...

Named after Milan’s cathedral, Duomo is located diagonally opposite Starz Cabaret in central Chaweng down a small soi that leads to several guesthouses. With typically Italian white tablecloths and sparkling-clean wine glasses, the restaurant wouldn’t look out of place downtown Milan. The venue is cozy, the atmosphere relaxed and family-friendly, and the owner ensures that all things go smoothly, while the staff members have a good level of spoken English.
Duomo is a favourite among Italian expatriates here and has high ratings, largely because its menu (Italian and English language) is dotted with regional peculiarities, and above all because the quality of the dishes served here– whether be pasta, pizza, or else – is simply outstanding. The Larder describes itself as a ‘gastro-pub’, the equivalent of what would be called a bistro in Paris: a mix of comfort food and classics revived and reinvigorated by a talented Chef – Martin Selby –who uses modern cooking methods with the best ingredients available. The Larder is a two-headed culinary monster as Martin’s partner - Damian Ahern – is a food & beverage aficionado who brings his long experience to make The Larder a ‘gourmet rendezvous’ in Samui.
Modern British & European cuisine with international influences is the style of cuisine served at The Larder. Set in an unpretentious contemporary style wooden décor, the atmosphere here is warm and welcoming; the main focus is the palatable satisfaction of the diners, and according to the Chef’s talent, there’s no way that anyone could be unsatisfied with The Ladder’s cuisine. Please note that reservations are recommended as the restaurant is fully booked most of the time. Read More...

Red is theme colour at Red Snapper with red seat covers and napkins and red birds of paradise flowers. This Chaweng restaurant thinks big in terms of hiring international chefs and has a wide ranging and innovative menu. Its modern décor includes abstract art on the walls, a live music lounge and bar, and an outside terrace hemmed in by teakwood railway sleepers with plenty of plants to keep things green.
Essentially a Mediterranean-influenced restaurant, you can enjoy dishes such as roasted duck breast with red wine sauce and polenta, roasted snow fish fillet in chorizo oil, a whole range of healthy salads and dessert treats such as poached pear ‘Belle Helene’. You’ll find live jazz here every night except Sundays and a sophisticated atmosphere that is very unlike the more laid-back, average Samui dining choice. Read More...

The drive up to this hillside resort restaurant may be hair raising (especially the last few metres) but it’s worth it for some of the best views on the island. The northerly views from Jungle Club are of Lamai, Chaweng, Bang Rak and the airport and, at midday on a sunny day, are quite simply unbeatable. Jungle Club has 17 bungalows, ranging from basic to four-star standard and its restaurant, built out of completely natural products, has bamboo sofas with colourful cushions and several different types of chair and table arrangements. The multilevel restaurant has several dining spaces, and you can choose from a wooden deck with Thai cushions to individual thatch-and-bamboo ‘salas’ to the actual restaurant area itself with its jazzy and spacey music and smiling staff.
Food-wise, Jungle Club isn’t going to win Michelin stars but its menu is made up of basic stuff that sticks to the straight and narrow, albeit in a ‘Frenchified’ way. Baguettes, salads, steak and chips and a selection of wines form the backbone of the menu and if you fancy going Thai then there is a selection of curries and other dishes to choose from. Gringos Cantina has been on the island longer than the surf and was Samui’s first ever Mexican restaurant, or, to be more accurate, Tex Mex restaurant. There’s a fairly laid-back and fun atmosphere here, largely because the Canadian owner is an extremely friendly guy. Here, you can enjoy Mexican lasagna, enchiladas, burritos, chimichangas, fajitas, and Texan specialities such as spicy Santa Fe pork ribs and beef stew. Vegetarians are well taken care of and the barbecue selection features both local and imported meats. Read More...
