Samui Shopping

Samui is constantly evolving and its shopping opportunities reflect this fact. A few years ago choices were limited but now that a stronger permanent resident presence is settling down several malls and lots of supermarkets have sprung up to meet the need.

The biggest supermarkets and shopping malls are mainly located near Chaweng Beach, but you could find smaller ones all around the island.

7-Eleven

Ubiquitous and handy, 7-Eleven’s reputation goes before it. Samui has at the very least 60 of these red-and-green striped stores open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. One particularly appealing function of them is that for a small fee you can pay your utility/phone bills at the counter.

Big C

Another large mall featuring a central supermarket with many satellite stores selling goods ranging from gold jewelry and cell phones to Persian carpets, sportswear, fashion accessories and children's toys to pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. There are plenty of restaurants in case you feel hungry and a few banks in which to exchange money as well as a big, but bizarrely designed parking lot.

Just as ubiquitous as 7-Elevens, Family Mart is slightly more expensive while selling just about the same goods. Open 24/7.

Tops Market

Located in Central Festival Samui, this is the place to stock up your mini-bar with reasonably priced snacks, drink and fresh fruits. Just on the side of the main road, it's part of the largest shopping mall in Samui, and it's surrounded by restaurants and bars to add that extra bit of fun to your shopping trip.

Tesco Lotus

This shopping mall is home to a wide selection of shops, restaurants, a food court, snack bars, a bowling alley and even a multiplex cinema showing Thai and western movies. Here, you'll find a large supermarket with surrounding one-off boutiques, banks, as well as a Levi's outlet, Triumph swim and underwear, brand-name watches, a KFC branch, an MK restaurant, Black Canyon coffee shop, a sportswear and accessory shop and everything you need for a major shopping spurge. Children's play area included.

Wine Connection

Probably the best wine outlet in Samui – Wine Connection has a good selection of both Old and New World labels that are carefully transported and well presented. Given Thailand's exorbitant wine taxes, Wine Connection does a sterling job at attempting to keep prices as low as possible.
