Koh Samui Airport
This world-famous airport has had a renovation and makeover, and now Departures and Arrivals are separated by Samui Park Avenue – a 20-unit shopping mall.
While some will deplore the changes it's fair enough to say that Samui Airport is still the sort of place that makes visitors wonder why every airport couldn't look like this.
Although it's no longer mere thatch and coconuts, Samui Airport still retains a laid-back charm. It's hard not to feel affection for an airport with uncoordinated clocks, brightly coloured flora, a good children's play area and live music (by the shopping area).
Shopping
Samui Park Avenue
Samui Park Avenue itself has plush boutiques, cafés, a cigar outlet, a Jim Thompson silk shop, a Bookazine branch, a skin care and health spa shop, a pub and a pizzeria and more. It's all very upmarket and occasionally features live jazz.
Samui Robot Group
Just outside the airport it's worth making a stop at the 'Recycled' factory outlet shop that sells fantastic Alien and Predator-like monsters built out of used auto and motorcycle parts. Somewhat scary looking (some of them are huge) they're nevertheless testimony to Thai handicraft skills.
